How do I apply for my Firearms Licence?
In BC, successful CFSC candidates must apply to the RCMP Canadian Firearms Program for their Firearms Licence and must send their Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC PAL) course reports with their applications. The applications (available on the RCMP CFP website, under forms) must also be accompanied by a passport-type photo and processing fee to the RCMP CFP (Nonrestricted only: $60 / Nonrestricted & Restricted: $80). Applicants will have to wait 45 days for the RCMP CFP to process an application/renewal and first-time applicants also have to wait an extra 28 days before they receive their PAL License in the mail. A PAL License is valid for 5 years. If you are applying for the Restricted PAL, you should also get a gun club membership and send a copy of it with your application. This will ensure that your PAL is associated with Authorization to Transport (ATT) restricted firearms.
Once you have a PAL you may purchase the class(es) of firearm listed on your licence.
OK, so I have my PAL and would like to learn how to shoot!
Please note RCMP require that the CFSC and CRFSC are purely safety courses and both courses are entirely classroom based. Becoming proficient with a firearm requires hands-on training and firearms owners are encouraged to sign up for our marksmanship courses.
